Career Planning and LEAF

career planning with lEAFCareer planning is one of those things where some kids plan every step to achieve their goal and others get a general direction and do their best with whatever comes along. I am not sure there is a “right” way however, it is smart to start early understanding what options are available now. I have found there is a big difference in higher education and other options than there were when I was a student.

You may have heard recently about an organization called LEAF (Lake/Geauga Educational Assistance Foundation). LEAF provides High Schools Students in Lake and Geauga Counties free services including:

  • Career advising
  • Informational sessions at the Resource Center
  • FAFSA filing assistance (FAFSA is the Federal Financial Aid application)
  • Student Loan counseling
  • Scholarship information
  • College Application and testing fee waivers for qualified students

and more

This week on October 28th there is an event called “Apprenticeships, Colleges, Jobs . . . Explore Your Options” for students who are undecided about what to do after high school. Registration is required and can be done from the LEAF website

LEAF also maintains a database of scholarships ranging from local specific opportunities to statewide and nationwide. As a reminder Rebel Families also makes scholarships available to students whose families have been involved in supporting the student body at South.
